Farmhand Ltd was formed in 1962 as a 50/50 partnership between Denis Scrivener and Bernard Krone, grandfather of the current Krone CEO. Later, John Scrivener, former Farmhand MD, bought out Bernard Krone so that Farmhand became a wholly Scrivener company. In the beginning, employing just 3 people, Farmhand rented an office in Merrion Square, Dublin city centre and a yard in Lucan. Alongside the Krone Optimat trailer/muck spreader, Farmhand also became the first importer for Quicke outside of Scandinavia. Then in 1968 Amazone was added to the brands supplied by Farmhand, with a twin disc fertiliser spreader. By 1972 Farmhand had grown significantly, employing 20 people and the business moved to a purpose-built facility in Castleknock where it remained until 2008.
Today Farmhand employs 49 members of staff in Damastown, Dublin 15 and operates from a purpose-built premises with a state-of-the-art workshop and a parts warehouse covering 1400m². Completed in December 2021, a new building extension has seen the parts warehouse expand to 2,500m² and the addition of 900m² covered machinery storage.
